Shively Signs With Sycamores

,

Making the decision on where to spend the next four years of your life in college, especially during such an influential time, is rarely and easy one! You have to spend a lot of thought to make sure it’s not just the best decision, but that it’s the right one. Mya Shively did exactly that, narrowing down her selections until she finally settled on one conclusion; Indiana State is the absolutely best college choice for her!

“Making my decision was not an easy one,” said Shively about her process. “My parents and I sat down with a pros and cons list of my final 3 picks. Each school had a lot to offer! After my official visits, I had it narrowed down to 2 and had to go with my gut on which opportunity I thought would be the best to call home for the next 4 years.”

It wasn’t her gut, alone, that made her final decision, however. The progress and changes that Indiana State has made to its campus and facilities over recent years certainly didn’t hurt. Combine that with a great program and the major to fit with her goals, Mya made the choice.

“Indiana State offers my specific major, the school has recently put a ton of money into
renovations and equipment in their labs for students, ISU meets my ultimate goal of playing in a D1 program, and the players, coaches, and professors that I met made it feel very safe and welcoming,” she explained. “I will major in pre-dentistry at Indiana State University with the goal of becoming an Orthodontist.”

The right kind of preparation and mindset helped set Shively up for success, both on the court and in the recruiting process.

“I think the thing that has prepared me more than the physical challenge of the game is learning
how to be a good teammate,” Shively said “Bringing a good energy to the court and hoping it spreads makes all the hard work, sweat, and time put in all worth it. I love this game and nothing is better than stepping on the court with a team that also loves the game!”

“You have to put the time in the recruiting process if you expect it to work for you,” she went on. “Always go out on the court and strive to play your best game, because you never know who is watching!”

The Team Indiana recruiting process is second to none, placing 100% of it’s athletes. Shively went on to talk about how recruiting coordinator, Michelle Coleman, is passionate about players finding the right school at the right time, and just being there to help!

“Thank you to all of the Team Indiana staff for providing a program that helps us young athletes
grow and making our dreams to continue to play a reality!”

You’re welcome, Mya, and we could not be more proud! We know that you will be successful at the next level as a Sycamore. Any player interested in college playing opportunities or discussing options should contact recruiting coordinator, Michelle Coleman (michelle@teamindianavolleyball.com).
