IU Kokomo Adds Versatile Alexa Roberts
Whenever a player comes into a new club environment, especially later in their high school career, there can be a bit of an adjustment period. Now imagine you are trying to get recruited to play in college at the same time? That is the scenario that Alexa Roberts was faced with when she joined #TINation her senior year, but she didn’t let that stop or slow her down. Roberts recently signed to play volleyball at IU Kokomo (IUK) while studying criminal justice. Unlike many other players, Roberts felt like IUK was a fit for her the first time she stepped on campus.
“I loved IUK on my first visit because of the homey feel of it!” explained Roberts. “It wasn’t too big, wasn’t too small, and it has a great criminal justice program with one of the only crime labs in the country! I loved the way the coach (Heather Hayes) showed so much interest in me and meeting the team beforehand really made me feel like I belonged with them!”
With the help of Team Indiana (TI) and its recruiting program, Roberts was able to decide on IUK with confidence, feeling supported and positive the whole way.
“TI was extremely committed to helping me find a perfect fit,” said Roberts. “Whenever I had questions, there was someone there to help me out, and most importantly they were just as supportive as friends and family.”
As an undersized outside, Alexa always had to find different ways to play her game. Over the years, she’s learned a lot about using her size not as a crutch, but as an advantage to improve her game.
I think the one thing that has prepared me for college volleyball the most is the volleyball IQ I have learned throughout the years,” said Roberts. “I am always the undersized one and coaches have always taught me how to be smart and it has really gotten me to where I am today.”
We know the TI family is excited to watch Alexa play in college, and not so far from home! Congratulations, Alexa! Anyone interested in college playing opportunities or discussing options should contact recruiting coordinator Michelle Coleman (firstname.lastname@example.org).
