Rich has been coaching a top team at Team Indiana since 2005 leading Elite teams from 14s-18s.
Rich is currently in his fifth season as the varsity head coach at Zionsville High School. Prior to Zionsville he was the varsity head coach at Carmel High School from 2011 – 2014. The Greyhounds were crowned 4A State Champions in 2014 and Runner-ups in 2012 & 2013 along with MIC Champions in 2011, 2012 & 2013. With an overall record of 132-15 over his tenure Rich was also named 4A State North Coach of the Year in 2013 & 2014 and 4A State Coach of the Year in 2012. 8 ICGSA All State Athletes and 5 ICGSA Academic-All State Athletes were named. As well as IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner (Mckenzie Kiesle 2014), Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year (Carly Skjodt 2014), Under Armor 1st Team All-American & MVP (Carly Skjodt 2014), PrepVolleyball National Player of the Year (Carly Skjodt 2014) and named PrepVolleyball National Coach of the Year Finalist (2014). He was also named Hamilton County Sports Daily Coach of the Year in 2011, 2012 & 2013.
Since 2005 Rich has coached many age groups (15s-18s) and had numerous highlights. In 2021, Elite 17.1 double qualified for USA Junior Olympics in 17 Open and finished 19th in Las Vegas. In 2019, Elite 16.1 finished 3rd at the Northeast Qualifier qualifying for USA Junior Olympics. In 2018, Elite 18.1 finished 3rd in AAU 18 Open Division and produced two AAU All-Americans (Lauren Matthews & Devynn Merriman). The team also qualified for USA Junior Olympics with a 2nd place finish at the Winter Qualifier in Chicago. In 2012, he assisted the Elite 18 Asics team to a 5th place 18 Open AAU finish and an Pool A finish in the MEPL. In 2010, the 15 “Ninja Assassins” finished 11th in 15 Open at AAU. In 2006, he led the 18-1 Terminators to a National Championship in the American Division – the first title for Team Indiana. In 2005, he coached the 17-1 Bulldogs that finished 2nd in the 17 American Division, and he assisted his wife, Michelle, with the 18-1 Turtles team that finished 3rd in the 18 American Division.
Rich has developed and produced seven AAU All-Americans, and eight Junior Olympic All Americans, including one MVP. Rich has also guided his players thru the recruiting process; and watched them excel at the collegiate level.
Rich brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Team Indiana. Rich helped found the Butler University Men’s Volleyball club. While playing at BU, he led the team in kills, digs, and aces all three years of the club’s existence.
Rich is still an active player both indoors and outdoors, taking home numerous tournament championships. Rich’s coaching experience includes a three year stint at Butler University in which he helped lead the Bulldogs to a 76-28 overall record, including a 32-8 conference record. In his final year at Butler, the Bulldogs won the conference championship and qualified for the NCAA tournament, the first ever appearance for the school. His primary coaching responsibilities included player development, off-campus recruiting, and scouting. 2003 was Rich’s first year coaching club volleyball. Alongside his wife Michelle, they led their team to Nationals, finishing in the top 30 in the 16 American Division.
Rich currently resides in Fishers with his wife, Michelle, daughter, Haley, and son, Carson.
