Larry has been coaching volleyball since 1986 and has been with Team Indiana since the first 2005 season. Prior to that, Larry coached for 18 years with Circle City. He has coached age group teams from 13s to 18s. His 14-2s team in 2004 placed 3rd at Junior Olympics Nationals and his 14-2s team in 2009 placed 5th at AAU Nationals, losing to the eventual national champions at the Club level in both cases. Larry has coached every level of high school volleyball since 1986, with volunteer stints at Perry Meridian and Chatard, 12 years at Lawrence North, where he was head coach from 1993-99, and 11 seasons at Bishop Chatard, where he was the head coach from 2006-2011. His 2011 team were the 3A state runners-up. Currently, Larry coaches the JV team at Hamilton Southeastern. Larry is a member of St. Lawrence Parish, where he has been the Cadet A volleyball coach since 1990. Over the course of his career, Larry has been 1993 All-Metro Coach of the Year, 2009 City Coach of the Year, 2011 State 3A South Coach of the Year, and in 2011 was awarded the St. John Bosco medal, the highest service award CYO offers.
Larry grew up playing youth soccer in the ‘70s, first in his hometown of Bloomington, and then when he moved to the southside. A graduate of Southport High School, Larry went on to Ball State, where he was cross country and track manager and picked up a love for volleyball. He is also a passionate hockey fan and plays adult rec league hockey in Fishers. Since 1987, he has been a teacher at Lawrence North, where he teaches college-credit Psychology and AP World History.
